  • 2 min read

Breathing. It's so simple. We do it every day. Most of the time we don't even think about it.

In. Out. In. Out. All. Day. Long.

These 5 TEDx speakers are asking us to examine the power of breathing. Join them as they encourage you to experiment with ways to naturally reduce anxiety and promote personal relaxation.

Think you don't have time to work a breathing exercise into your busy work day? As Max Strom reminds us in his talk Breathe to Heal, "People take cigarette breaks, you can take a breathing break." Scrub to 14 minutes and 21 seconds into the video to give one of his breathing exercises a try.

Stacey Schuerman challenges you to find 5 minutes in your day to focus on your breathing. She'll walk you through a breathing exercise that will "allow yourself permission to let go" of the outside world, including "tension, fear, anxiety."

Dr. Romie champions the importance of taking time for self-care, saying, "Self-care is not selfish. It's just 20 minutes a day to honor your mind, your body," and shows you how to find "a moment in your day to be still" by connecting to your breathing.

Dr. Belisa Vranich, a clinical psychologist, advises us to "look no further than your toddler, your dog, your cat, even your fish" to improve your breathing technique. Scrub to 8 minutes and 10 seconds into the video to dive into her breathing exercise.

Joe DiStefano informs us in his talk that we breathe 23,000 times a day. His breathing exercises, including one that he says "is an amazing quick fix to calm you down before an important meeting," start at 10 minutes and 31 seconds into the video.
